Five years ago today we were talking about a missing Washington intern and wondering what the years ahead would be like with our appointed President. Some of us were more concerned then others but no one could of imagined how twenty-four hours could change our world. Was our world changed because of that one day or has it been changed because of extreme right wing agendas that have been in the works for many years? Were the innocent sacrificed for the agenda? Maybe we will never really know all the truth about those days. Despite the politics we should remember the victims, the unity that we felt as Americans & citizens of the world and our civil liberties that have been stolen since that time.

Every year I wake up on that day and think it will feel a little less sad, but it never does. When I think of the freedoms we had taken for granted, and now are missing, I tell myself to be grateful, for though life is a little less convenient, we are safer, but I don't believe it. Every year I'm devastated all over because my boy was only 10 years old on that day and he will never really know what life was like before that day. Most of all I am angry. I personally think that just as they foiled the terror plot a few weeks ago in Europe, had the right people been paying attention five years ago, it wouldn't be impossible to bring even a bottle of water onto a flight today. I would give just about anything to go back to that day before, when I was swearing to God that if I had to listen to newscasts about a missing Washington intern for one more day, I would scream... Hello Heather, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotions. I received private e-mails in response with similar feelings. Your son may never know the true sense of freedom that we grew up with but maybe if we vote out the Republicans he will know a better America then we know now.
